Target Gelsenkirchen 12th June 1944
Permalink

The Night Raid Report route map indicates 3 Group's was the same as 8 Group other than where their bases were.
PFF route in Form B 823 was: BASE -5200N 0100W - 5230N 0300E -5140N 0340E - TARGET - 5132N 0712E - 5150N 0710E - 5240N 0340E - 5300N 0300E - HAISBORO - BASE
H-HOUR - 0100

I just checked the FORM A orders going from BCHQ to the Groups involved. FORM A AC691 confirms the above route but without HAISBORO as the specified route for all Groups. there were 82 Lancasters from 3 Group and 184 Lancasters from 1 Group, along with marking aircraft from 8 Group

Hi,

I am trying to find the route taken by 3 Group aircraft to this particular target. Would anyone have a record of this or a loss card showing the route there and back.

Thanks in advance.

Howard

Let me correct my post - here is the prescribed route as laid out in the orders sent from BCHQ to the Groups. Each Group could add in waypoints depending on their location and other activities going on. My post had an 8 Group waypoint I think. Also attempting to post the route map.

5230N 0300E -5140N 0340E - TARGET - 5132N 0712E - 5150N 0710E - 5240N 0340E - 5300N 0300E

Cheers

Hi Dave,

Once again, many thanks especially for posting the map. May I ask where these records are kept for future reference?

Regards

Howard

Hi Howard
The route map came from Night Raid Report no. 632 found in Air 14/3412. The Form A AC691 came from the 8 Group Appendices in Air 25/163.
Cheers
Dave
