Not sure if you are still following this but I thought I'd respond. I'm in the midst of working on my Dad's story and have come to the part where he was sent to what he called Riccall Common. He was a sergeant, a Canadian serving in the RAF having transferred from 242 Squadron where he had been working on Hurricanes - Douglas Bader was the CO at the time. Anyway, apparently he arrived just as Riccall was being established and was in fact sent into Riccall or Riccall Common to find a brewery to stock the newly established mess. Sometime after he arrived a new CO turned up - his notes say the officer's name was "Pinckney" (perhaps Pinkney). I have not been able to find out any information about this officer either with 76, 78 or 1658 HCUs. Would love to find out more if you've had any luck.....
