Pathfinder methods / Two runs?

Did the crews in PFF who were carrying a mixed load of flares for target marking , and a load of GP bombs have to do two runs? Once to mark the target , then circle and join the main force for their bomb run?

I have read conflicting accounts, and would appreciate any input from the forum. Cheers, Clint.

They often did two runs but they could also drop everything at one time. The Bomb Aimer had a selection switch that determined what would be dropped, part of the load, all of the load, TIs only or bombs only. On many operations there was a Master Bomber who could call in for more marking during an attack. This could done by crews designated as Backers up but the Pathfinders also designated crews to be Illuminators, Blind Illuminators, Primary Visual Markers, Primary Blind markers, Visual Centerers, and Supporters. Each had a different role in the attack.
