Hi,

Could anyone let me know the circumstances around the death of Miles William Scott on 16th January 1942. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial

Aircraft Type: Wellington
Serial number: IC 9043
Radio call sign:
Unit: 15 Op Trg RAF

Wellington IC 9043 of No 15 Operational Training RAF, was reported missing on a ferry flight from RAF Station Portreath, UK, to the Middle East on the night of 16 January 1942.

Crew:

RAAF 400502 Sgt J.M.Brady, Pilot.
RAAF 400693 Sgt J.R.Brown, Pilot.
RAAF 405075 Sgt J.H.Hehir, Air Gunner.
RAF Sgt A.F. Scott,
RAF Sgt M.W.Scott.
RAF Sgt J.E.Browne.

Following post war enquiries and investigations, it was recorded in 1948 that the missing crew had lost their lives at sea.

Sgt J H Hehit 405075 RAAF crash file is on line at our archives and you can see it and download using his service number, nothing more than Pete was able to tell you but still makes for interesting reading. You can also request the Aussies service be put on line but it will cost you.
