Hi

I am privileged to care for a 166 Squadron veteran. I am helping him put his memories down on paper and I wonder if any one out there can offer any information that would assist us?

I have some of the operation records and summery of events for that period but would like all of them for that period if possible. Can you tell me how I go about getting them please? New to all this!

Chuffed as ninepence this week to have obtained a copy of the 166 Squadron book Wings of war!!!!

Hello Jacky, I have a 166 Squadron thread on this site. If you care to email me on mjc41uk@yahoo.co.uk and tell me the name of your friend I will be able to give you more information. Without his name or the name of his pilot it is difficult to say more now. 14 crews were posted in during May 1944 and about 5 of them finished their tour in August (from memory, Blanchard, Rippon, Graham, Holmes, Strath and Steel were the Pilots)

Best Wishes

B

Hi

Thank you, it was the Holmes crew. I have downloaded the ORB for that period so lots to work with now. Fortunately he has lots of his old documents and photos so busy looking through that now.

I managed to get hold of two copies of wings of war, the 166 squadron history. The first was not a signed copy so when the signed one came up I just had to have it!

Hello again. I am glad you have been able to access the Operations Record Book. I was in touch with Len Isaacson, Peletier and Laurie Holmes many years ago. Sometime ago a piece of perspex from their crashed Lancaster (a training incident) was sold on Ebay.

Best wishes

B

Barnsley did you have any written communication with Holmes, Pelletier and Isaacson? I know Laurie Holmes has passed away, I guess the others too. My man would love to hear about it! Ivan J Pelletier my man says, the best dressed man in the RAF! Have a couple of photos of him here.

Wow about the perspex! Was that the crash landing when they lost three engines? My man was the flight engineer, I tease him its a miracle they let him fly again!!!

I managed to acquire a second copy of Wings of War, please message me if anyone interested in it, the first I bought was not signed then a signed one came up on Ebay so had to have it!

To the individual who posted regarding a spare copy of Wings of War - 166 squadron being available, is it still?  If so i have been looking for a copy for awhile.

Cheers,

Todd
