)Hello,

I'm looking after some information about a RCAF man named Kevin Doyle, R. 157865
I've an address dated from the 1940's:
Kevin Doyle
2068 W. 6 th Avenue
Vancouver, Br. Columbia
Canada
Was he a member of the crew of the Halifax LW-592, 432 Sqn????
Their aircraft was shot down above Belgium on the 27 of April 1944 and crashed at Sur-les-Bois (Engis).
Crewmembers were:
P/O Whaley H.H. RCAF (EVD)
Sgt Phillips A.C. (POW)
F/O Burrows J.W. RCAF (KIA) (buried at the Allied cemetery of Saint-Trond in 1944)
F/S Doyle K.J. RCAF (EVD)
P/O McDonald D.C. RCAF (EVD)
P/O McCoy D.A. RCAF (EVD)
P/O Driver P.E. RCAF (KIA) (buried at the Allied Cemetery of Saint-Trond in 1944)
4 evaders were helped by the Belgian Underground. Were the evaders members of an escaping sociaty after the war?
Greetings from Belgium

Alexander, none of the four Evaders, including Kevin Doyle, was a member of the Royal Air Forces Escaping Society, Canadian Branch, which is composed of Evaders.  I was a member, but they have folded up because of age.

How did you enjoy my books?  I have just put both copies into the library of the Canadian Ship HMCS Calgary, and am hoping to do the same in all Canadian ships.  As a reward, the Captain of the Ship presented me with one of his hats, and declared me Captain for a Day.

Matt, it means I am hoping to receive an invitation to their next cruise with the public aboard.  I was invited to their commissioning cruise but had to miss because of illness.  I'll crawl there this time if I have to.

Hello Alexander, I had a look at the Halifax Book and found that LW 592 was one of 185 Halifax B/A Mark III"s that  were constructed by English Electric and  were assigned the serial numbers LW 459 to LW 724 constructed between May and June 1944.  I cannot find any reference to it being a Halifax on charge to 432 Squadron. Alexander, The question marks after you post heading made me wonder why they were there so my curiosity got the better of me and after my last posting to you I went digging a bit further to see what I could find. Halifax LW 592 was indeed a 432 Squadron aircraft coded "QO-A". based at East Moor, Yorkshire.

Kevin Doyle was my uncle, born 1921.    There are case histories about being shot down over Europe in the Lancaster as well as his trials while evading the German Forces...(which he succeeded in doing).... These stories he passed over to my mother, they were both very close...the two youngest... in a large family....( brothers and sisters born from 1910 to 1921)...my mother 1919-1980 and Kevin 1921.

Kevins' Father, James Doyle, was in the British Army...1880-1955...Born in Carrick on Shannon River...Ireland....

Kevin was a private man and a good family man.  He has family living in Vancouver BC.

The address you have indicated for Kevin is correct.  If you want you can contact me at

 claimsurvey1@yahoo.ca

Your post board I just found a few minutes ago, and I have already made a copy.  It is a great honour to see this information on my uncle...I have tried for many years to find information on Kevin over the years and was never successfull till today.  Probably because I never owned a computer till two years ago...sept/97...I find this contraption a very powerfull tool...

I do a lot of research with this machine and will now put my uncles history into my Military History File....

Keep posting out into the interent you posters...there is a great knowledge base out there to tap into...and those of us who are older now...continuusly look out into the unknown looking for answers...

Hello KRJC,

Thank you very much for your reply. very interesting information! I'll write you an e- mail.
The Halifax LW-592 was shot down by Hauptman (captain) Johannes Hager from 6/NJG 1
Kevin Doyle was, according to what I had found 2 years ago, reported as killed in action. I had in fact at that time two different versions, one that he was KIA and the other that he escaped.
See also the next link and you'll find a picture of your uncle with other evaders helped by the Comète Line!

Hello,

I believe you are speaking about my father Kevin Joseph Doyle of Vancouver/Richmond BC. He served Canada as a flight officer during World War II in the Air Force. Born in Vancouver, BC on April 6th, 1921.

I believe this is the same Kevin. If you wish to contact me directly by email, you can at: vincent@cheekyz.com

I know this is an old post but I was just doing some research and came across it now.
Cheers,
Vincent Doyle
