In the July/August issue of the Legion Magazine there is an article regarding the above which continues to be an issue with veterans, particularly those that served with Bomber Command during WWII. As we know by now there is a panel on display as part of the Bomber Command exhibit at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa that in the opinion of many leaves the wrong impression and interpretation with those that visit and read what is depicted there. The museum have been reluctant to pay much attention to those that served and or organizations that represent them so much so that pressure was brought to bear and finally a Senate Committee in Ottawa reviewed the argument put forward on behalf of the veterans. The following is a condensed account of the committee findings and or recommendations. The full account can be found on page 54 of the Legion Magazine July/August issue. Senate Decides on War Museum Controversy The Senate concluded that the Royal Canadian Legion and Canada's veterans were justified in asking the war museum to revise its display, making reference to the panel dealing with Strategic Bombing during WWII. The report offers a direct rebuttal of Canadian War Museum testimony stating "There is more thanone way to tell a story accurately ....we feel that no one display in anymuseum should be immutable" while the Senate's report is not binding on the war museum it does take Canada's veteran groups one step closer to this enduring controversy. The war museum communications manager acknowledges receiving the report but at press time the museum had not yet formulated a response and the statement was made "We will take the time necessary to respectfully consider the report and its recommendations."
