I have been checking the Bomber Command War Diaries book using it as a reference for my book on 431 Squadron and I came across this, "Serrate Patrols" used in conjuction with a reference to minor operations 23/24Feb.1944. Does anyone know what this terminology means???? there was, according to the Diaries only 2 aircraft sent out so I'm thinking it couldn't have been anything too large. Thanks. Bill
Hi Bill, A good source with many definitions is "No Prouder Place" written by David Bashow, also website www.rcaf434squadron.com where I added many of his definitions. Mutual agreement between us.
Serrate sortie - operation to locate and destroy enemy night fighters and combined with night bomber raids. Made use of airborne radar.
Hi Alan, Thanks for your reply to my question. I just wanted to understand what I was reading otherwise no point in reading. I've noted the website you offered. Thanks again. Bill
