I'm looking after some information about the career of F/O Loewen Dave H., J/27590, Bombaimer of 431 Sqn. He's now buried at the Schoonselhof Cemetery Antwerp, Belgium. Regards,
Alexander

From the Canadian Virtual War Museum..
Flying Officer DALE HOWARD LOEWEN who died on April 28, 1944
Thanks for the information!! I've a doubt about the crashplace, Trognée (Belgium). All the aircrafts which crashed and crews who got KIA that night in the area of Saint-Trond were buried on the Allied Cemetery of Saint-Trond air base. Trognée isn't so fare from Saint-Trond but the crew of the MZ-536 was buried in Deurne near Antwerp which is not situated near Saint-trond but very close to the border of the Netherlands! They were transfered after the war to Schoonselhof Cemetery near Antwerp. Is it possible to contact the archives of Canada by mail and ask them to check the personal file of one of the crewmembers of the MZ-536 just to see if there's a crash place mentioned? If so, can somebody give me an address, contact? I'm not asking any copies but would like to know if there's a crashplace mentioned! Regards and greetings from Belgium
Alexander

Hi Alexander, My records on lost 431 Squadron aircraft record MZ536 SE-F as having been shot down by a night-fighter and crashed near Trongee as Moon has already suggested.
You should direct your enquiry to "Client Services".
Just a word to the wise, they are NOT very prompt at replying, but if you are patient enough they will eventually get back to you. This has been my experience anyway
I'll contact them for extra information. I received a document from the UK archives and I can confirm the crashplace: Trognée. They were shot down by Herman Greiner from II/NJG1, Saint-Trond airfield (Belgium) I can also tell you that I've localize the exact crashlocation in Trognée. Regards,
Alexander

Do you think if it's possible that I ask them for a copy of the personal file? I don't know if I can have access to this file because I'm not one of the next-of-kin! Regards,
Alexander

Hi Alexander, To answer your question re personnel records, I'm not sure that they will release anything to you unless as you say you were the "next of kin", but there is no harm in trying, the worst that could happen is they will tell you no. What information were you hoping to extract from the records? with what limited information I have on hand perhaps I might be of some help. Bill.
I'm hoping to find some extra details about his first burial place (buried on the 30 of April 1944 at Deurne near Antwerp) and perhaps a picture. May be also another document with the mention of the crash place, Trognée.
Are you interested in a copy of the Bomber Command Loss Card?
Greetings from Belgium
Alexander

Hi Alexander, And a "Merry Christmas" to you also. Yes I would be interested in a copy of the Bomber Command Loss card it will be a nice addition to my collection of 431 Squadron memorabilia, thanks for the offer. Bill.
Note that if an individual has been deceased for over twenty years the service file is open to anyone, without restriction. Also, if the member died in service, no proof of death is required.
Hi Ken, Thanks for the information, I have marked the site you suggested to my favourites for future reference. I'm sure Alexander will be glad to hear the news you offered. Bill.
Thank you very much for this very interesting information!! A friend told me it was possible to ask a personal file but he wasn't 100 % sure! I've the right info now.
Greetings from Belgium!!
Alexander

I'll send you the BCL card but can you give me an e-mail address?
I've also found Loewen Henry, R284667 from Rokeby, Saskatchewan killed on the 30 of October 1944. He was under training and crewmember of an Anson. They came back from a night bombing training exercise when the aircraft crashed on the West end of the aerodrome of Dafoe.
Loewen Dave was from Scott, Saskatchewan and Henry from Rokeby, Saskatchewan.....may be family from each other?
Greetings from Belgium
Alexander
