Can anyone help ewith info on the above?

He is listed on the CWGC site as died 30/12/44 and was a Wop/Agnr with 161 (RAF) Squadron.

The problem is .....161 Sqdn did not lose any a/c that night and I can find no trace of him (so far) in the ORB or Battle Orders.

Ideas?

TIA,
Bob

Hi Bob,

The CWVM site lists him as being buried in Surrey, my guess is that he was killed in some sort of accident. I have seen this before with men or women being killed in bicycle accidents etc. You would likely need the ORB to find out for certain but that would be my guess.

Thanks Matt.

i have now found out that it looks like he was killed during a "massive" bombing raid on London.
He does not appear in the ORB under posting s in, so I guess that although he was posted to 161 he just never got there.

Is there a way to get a sight of his service record/details?

TIA
Bob

This question is to anyone that can offer help. I'm looking for information on the above airman. he flew 23 Ops' with 425 Sqdn. and lived out the war. He was a navigator and his pilot was a F/L Harvey. I don't have a service number at the moment. His sister, who is 92 years old is trying to find some information on his service. Any advice would be helpful. Maybe Matt could put his contact to work on this one??. Thanks.

Hi,

You can write to,

Personnel Records Centre,

National Archives of Canada,

Tunney's Pasture,

Ottawa, Ontario, K1A ON3,

Canada.

You can request a copy of his service file. Its a free service if you only request one a year. It does take a number of months.

Good luck with your research.

Regards,

John.
