Question for John A. Neal: Royal Air Force Code of an aircraft
Permalink

  • Hello,

    Can somebody explain me the meaning of this code (book, documents?).
    I've found in a police report about the MZ-522 the next:
    The Air Force Code A. P. 1927 was taken by members of the Belgian Underground.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR

    Greetings from Belgium

    Alexander

Hi Alexander
Without knowing what the numbers signify, the letters A.P. stand for Air Publication and were used for many documents/books of instruction , procedures etc to get information to RAF crew members both air and ground. As an example AP1580 details bomb loads and release procedures,AP 2013 is the "Handbook of Air Mines. It seems that members of the Resistance got to the a/c before ,or in spite of the Germans, and removed a set of instructions that the crew were carrying and could not destroy, and perhaps should not taken into the air in the first place
Regards
Dick

Hello Dave and Alexander;

And a Happy New Year to you also.

After 63 years of Civilian life, I have enough problems with remembering my Service numbers, leave alone the numbers that you outline.  So, I will have to leave it to you young Hotshots to answer the problems.

Now, if you want to know something about the Girls I dated, that's a different matter.  And a lot more important at  the time.

John
