John, Did you have a crewmember who went by the name of Dusty McLeod?.

Bill:

Not in my first crew, with whom I did nine ops.  Then I went on spare list for a further three.  Two were with #428 and the Pilot was Edwards, but didn't get to know the rest of the crew.  The last was when I was shot down and no MacLeod in that crew.

Started another crew in April of 1945 at Wombleton but VE Day finished that, and Big Bomb in Japan.  Have no record of that crew.

Is someone claiming to know me?

John Neal (no E)

Hi John, No I knew your name was Neal (no E) from the Hamber crew
(via Sid Philp) but I thought that the chap making the enquiry regarding this Dusty McLeod may have mispelled. There is a guy on Richard's site who was enquiring about a John Neale that flew with this Dusty chap who was an evader and I thought of you but obviously the wrong person. Thanks for your reply.

Bill, sorry I'm not the right guy.  Did you know Syd Philp?  I heard he died a few years ago and I sent a note to his Daughter, but didn't hear from her.  He was a pretty nice chap, and we went through McGill together after the war.

And, talking about Evaders, I'm giving a speech tomorrow at the Aircrew Association on Escape Lines that were bringing Evaders back to England.  It is called "The Long Road Home".  I could post it here if somebody doesn't mind just over two pages.

John

Hi John, No I never had the pleasure of meeting Sid but I have read a few of his personal writings that were loaned to me by his daughter who I'm in touch with quite frequently she lives in Quebec. Which daughter did you contact? Sid passed away a little over two years ago and this was how I came to make contact with the family when I transcribed Sid's logbook and then copied it and put it all into a scrapbook along with some photographs that had been sent to me by the family I then put it all on disk for them. It was through her that I managed to get a photograph of Sid and have it posted on this website. The Hamber crew picture came from Ted Korber one of Sid's crewmates.
Good luck with the speech. Bill.
