I would like to say thank you to your site and the contribution by Jack Taylor/Linda Ibrom about Sergeant Jack Squire.  I have been researching my family history and in particular the fate of my father's first cousin, Flt Sgt Desmond Widdows.  All I knew about him from family stories was that he died only a few months before the end of the war, aged about 22.  His death deeply effected all his family, most particularly his mother (my great aunt) as he was her only child.

Thanks to the posting about Sergeant Jack Squire I have found out that Desmond was killed in an incident involving his Lancaster bomber (I ME 863 SR-K) and that of Sergeant Squire.  If anyone has any more information about this incident, or has any recollection of Desmond or any photographs of him, I would be very grateful to hear from you.

Hi-
I am so pleased that my write up on Sergeant Jack Squire, with the photo and info provided by Jack Taylor has helped you piece together the fate of Flt Sgt Widdows.
If you need the list of the rest of his crew from Chorley's then please let me know.It is really good to get feed back and know that,in some small way,i have helped..Writing about the losses of these young airmen and the effects on their families is truly heart breaking, which is why this site is such a worthy memorial to these men.,and hopefully a comfort to their families,to know that they are not forgotten.

Linda

Thanks so much.  Any information you have about Flt Sgt Widdows and his crew would be most gratefully received.  Also, if you have any information about exactly what happened (your article said that his plane flew at right angles to the other crew's plane - did they hit each other do you know or was Sgt Widdows' plane already hit?) I woudl be very interested.

Many thanks
