Anyone advise me on this subject - Say when training with a Heavy conversion Unit, doing circuits in a Halifax, how long after take off would the bomb aimer take his position, or would he have other duties to attend to first

Jim, we Bomb Aimers would take our position in the nose soon after takeoff. We were sort of extra eyes for the Piklot, helper for the Navigator, front end Gunner (if we had a gun), dispenser of the Window (down the flare shute of the biffy), taker of astro shots (in the astro hatch), confirmer of all bombs gone, ahd first out of the escape hatch after panic sets in. Sort of a Jack of all trades, but master of none!
