Anyone else out there with a passion for WW2 airfields, I'm lucky to live in the middle of dozens of bomber bases, mostly decaying back into nature now, this ones almost invisible

Hi Linda, this one is at Elvington, about a mile from the Air Museum, there are two areas with a few buildings left, i keep meaning to ask the land owner if i can have a really good look around, the others are on a public footpath so easier to get to, yoeks a great place to live if you like this stuff

Very cool, we have old airfields here from BCATP also one from the first world war which I am trying to locate. Lots of fun searching.

What is the building in the photo?  A barracks?

Not 100% sure, with all the air vents, could it be a shower block, its part of the communal area i think, quite a few buildings together and placed far away from main runways, about a mile, i will have to find my machette and try to get inside this one. Yes The museum is fantastic, home to one of the very few Halifax Bombers left, although it is made from a few different aircraft, but well worth a visit and at only £5 an adult, well worth it.

Hello,
Here is a link to #3 Air Navigation School (BCATP) Rivers, Manitoba. Plenty of color photos of present day, very large and deserted. Also used in Russel Crowe movie "For The Moment" a film about an Austrailian pilot who comes to Manitoba to train under the BCATP...

Jim,
Do you have any good (hi-res) shots of control towers? Making a video on abandoned WWII airfields. All pictures that I use will be credited.

Doering

For old airfields try - airfieldinformationexchange.org

I have sent them a lot including shots of Jurby control tower.
This is in WW2 condition externally. Repairs have been done this year and repainting done.
The airfield is now known as Jurby Motordrome !!
i cant complain really as I am the President of the local motorcycle racing club - Andreas Racing Association - a bit of a contradiction but we couldn't get legal contact with the then owners of Andreas airfield.

The other active airfield is Ronaldsway and there is a very much higher new tower, just opened last month. HOWEVER, the old tower, added to, is to be retained.

Especially now, it is time to remember:

This video was made to remember and preserve the significance of airfields during WWII.
