It's flabbergasting! 10 days without a new posting, or even an addition to an old one. Have we run out of subjects or are all of our old timers passed along? Well, here's something to get your teeth into.
On May 7th, at 16:00 Hours, the new Air Force wing at the Military Museums of Calgary will open. There will be a reception and tour arranged. Spouses or Girlfriends are welcome, and there is a nice new gift shop to browse.
My books (The Lucky Pigeon and Bless You, Brother Irvin) will be on display, and the Author there to sign any you buy.
So, come on out you Downeasters (and Downwesters) and see what the West has to offer. Believe it or not, 6 Air Museums in one province.
Hi Matt. No aircraft in the Air Force section, but 3 in the Naval Museum (Fleet Air Arm) in the same location. However, they have an F-5 on the premises. And one heck of an Air Force library.
Well, they opened the new museum today, with a lot of Brass present. It is a small museum, but tells the story of the R.C.A.F. very well with plenty of wall displays and two theatres. One of them was showing the history of Bomber Command with G/C Cliff Black part of the show. The other was a display of an actual Briefing, in third dimension; very interesting.
When I commented to Gerry Morrison, who is in charge of it, that there were no planes save the F-5, his comment was "Just wait". There are plenty of models about.
As a result of my visit, I have been invited to the Museum for June 6th, the 65th celebration of D-Day when the whole Military Museum will be dedicated, by the Duchess of Wessex.
Finally, a chance for the Wife and I to wear those Superduds.
Hi John, A gentleman, Michael Evans was asked to make a model of a Lancaster for his local Royal Canadian Legion branch, Regina, Sask and the one he chose to do was VR-F, KB 755, my uncle's aircraft. Two crew members came from the same area as himself. He very kindly sent me a photograph. I have had no luck in locating a picture of the crew as yet, but I'm still praying. I wish you all the best for the new museum. Bill
That VR-F was from the "Moose", @419 Squadron, where I was stationed. All of my Ops were on Halibags, which I bailed out of on April 22nd, 1944. I had done a couple of training runs on Lancs, but was in France when they went operational. My word was "Vive La France!".
John (in France, Louis Vachere of Bucy Le Long)
