Abbreviations on Aircraft Movement Cards
Permalink

Can anyone tell me what the abbeviation MV or MU stands for on these cards? usually preceeded by a number 48 or 45,  example ---- (45MU)

Also, Is there anyway to find a listing as to what "ALL" the different abbreviations mean when an aircraft was classified  Cat E and so on?

Thanks,
 Bill.

Hey Bill:

Not sure if this helps but would the abbrev. MU stand for Maintenance Unit?

In the BCATP a Cat "A" Accident was defined as a total loss, a Cat "B" Accident was repairable by the manufacturer or a special repair depot and Cat "C" damage was repairable locally.  Not sure if these were the same, expanded or differed in the U.K.

Hope others can add or clarify ...

The RAF and RCAF Accident Categories were opposites, which can get a little confusing.

This link has a brief description of the RAF Categories, Category A being minimal damage and E being complete destruction.

One of my pages has a quick description of the RCAF Categories, A being complete destruction or loss and D being minimal damage.

Those links are pure gold in terms of clarification and definition.  I guess it sort of figures the RAF & RCAF had reversed alphabetical nomenclature for damage categories ... one of us drives on the wrong side of the road, too!   Appreciate the expanded info and found the link material and contents excellent, too.
