Hi

We now know the Walter Walker was initially buried at Weissenbronn, about 75 km NW of Nuremburg.

The crash site is reported to have been at 'Swaback', as reported by the skipper, Sattler (this is probably Schwabach) and fits with the possible downing of a Lancaster by Maj Herbert Lutje of Stab NJG-6 (tbc) at 2133 and 4,500m, some 30(?) km SSW of Nuremburg.

Fallen aircrew were usually buried close to the crash site. Indeed two other crewmembers, Durston and Wood (no relation) were buried initially at Heilsbronn and Munchlerbach respectively. (The Flight Engineer Jeffrey was never found). These two communities are less than 4km apart and lie 22 km SW of Nuremburg and Schwabach is 13 km SSW of Nuremburg.

So I am curious how Walker ended up almost 100 km away from the others. Can anyone offer suggestions please?

Cheers,
Matt
