Dave, Sounds interesting for info for Onkel Herbert. Problem the email address you gave does not get through because of some irregularity which I don't understand. Couls you give it to me again please. PhilC
Dave thanks for the tip which I will now try. This is the error message I get when I try to use the long address -
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e14' [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]syntax error (missing operator) in query expression 'AirCrewld='. /view_aircrew.asp.line 108
Rex Henry Wedd 408200 was killed on the night of 20/21 December 1943 in Lancaster JA674 whilst attacking Frankfurt. The Lancaster was shot down by Uffz Werner Rominger (his first victory (abschusse)) of 8./NJG3 at 20.07 hours at Laubach, 25 km SE of Giessen. The Lancaster exploded in mid-air, the entire crew, of which Flt Lt Wedd was the bomb-aimer, was killed. 5 bodies were found in a forest, one in the main street of Lauter and a year later the 7th body was found in the forest and buried in a shallow grave.
Hope this helps Regards Max

Dave Got it! Loads of information - who, where, why, when. Anyone know what - what each man did? Sullivan, Max tells me that Wedd was the bomb-aimer, but the others? Still haven't found Herbert's letter.
Phil: Sullivan was the pilot, Loder was the nav., Ritchie the W/op, Knox the F/e, Mason the m-u g and Hickling (whose body was found a year later) the r-g.
This is the 2nd reply - what the blazes I did last time I don't know. Everything just vanished before my very eyes. Anyway, My request was put in at that day at 12 hrs 10 mins and yours was about 12 hrs 12 mins! I did understand the abbreviations but thanks again. I will, eventually find Herbert's letter and post it here. Fingers crossed. Phil Corkill
Rex was also my great Uncle and that of my brother Michael Rex and sister Anne-Marie. He was the brother of my Grandfather Jack Stanley Wedd. We place a poppy next to his name in the AWM each year.
I already have at home, his service medals, and my father (Robert Reck Lief Sward) has his flight / mission records. If someone wants to Rex or his family history details..
