I am in the search for information about the Bobardierung of the oil works Lützkendorf Wintershall AG in the night from 4./5. April 1945. At this night are 2 Tallboy bombs over the work were thrown off its. Can someone help me with information? Does it give sowas like freight lists of the individual airplanes? The No.1 and No.8 could have been. Thank you!

Wo könnte man überprüfen? Jemand weiß, das Buch: "The Mighty Achte wurde Diary" Roger A. Freeman 1990 MINT. Könnte man etwas finden, da? Es ist etwas über RAF-Anschläge in it?

If I understand you correctly you are wondering if the Tall Boy bombs were used on Lützkendorf on 4/5 April, 1945?

617 Squadron was not on operations on this night. From the 617 Squadron ORB:

04.04.1945

No operations. Intensive training. G/C Fauquier departed for London (three days leave) S/L Calder assumes command

05.04.1945

Eighteen aircraft detailed for operations but cancelled at 0300.

617 did not drop any Tall Boys in April until 07 April when they hit the naval facilities at Ijmuiden.

That is the question? The bomb is thrown off in the night from 4th 5 April 1945. One sees the original head as monument. There is however not one recording over it.

As far as i can recall, 617 were not the only RAF squadron to carry Tallboys. 9sqdn sent 18 a/c to Lutzkendorf on 8/9th April 45, all carrying Tallboys fused for 30min delay.

Well, we proceed times from 8./9. April 1945. Perhaps one has the data also in the general chaos and constant bombardment exchanges. Man has the head of the bomb in a debris mountain found with to clear up the factory. This head is to have been still full with explosive. That means thus, which did not explode the bomb. One took the head then as monument. From where does the information with 9. and the 18 bombers come? Or it can be, which was intended this bomb for Leuna and came down coincidentally on Lützkendorf. Leuna is 15 km von Lützkendorf far away and one often took Lützkendorf as a secondary goal for Leuna.

Where there is this information. Why 30 min. delay in a Tallboy?

The information is from the 9sqdn Records, the 30min delay i suppose would be to cause more confusion and disruption to those returning to the area after the attack had finished.

Is there this report as copy? Is it to be seen possible this? With the time fuses I cannot understand however. There one could take simple bombs and not a so expensive bomb. Allegedly it cost 30,000, - and the pilots were not allowed to make false throws.

My father flew a Lancaster (J2) to Lutzkendorf on the night of 4/5th April 1945 while serving with RAF 550 Squadron out of North Killingholme. No other details. See 550 Squadron association website for links to his logbook.

Wasn't the kind of noting usual in UK? Or are these data still state secret? Not one humans noted or remember these things? Is there no list of the load of the carried bombs to Germany?

Dein Vater flog eine Mission in der Nacht vom 4./5.4.1945. Gibt es Fotos oder Berichte von dem Angriff? Wie liefen solche Flüge ab?

Dear Anon.,

I have no info of any tallboys in this raid. But # 1 group RAF definitely involved. A Lancaster only identified as 'U' was loaded with 1 'cookie' and 10x500lb smaller bombs. There were 257 other Lancasters with similar loads. Bombs dropped at 11,000 ft. According to RAF only moderate damage to the oil refinery. I hope this helps you.
