Hello,

I do some research on F/Lt Donald Bowes, Navigator in 97 squadron in 1944.
He was still in RAF after the war, until 1961 I believe.
I would like to contact him, or its relative.
Could you help ??

Thank you !
Alain.

Hi Alain,

it might be worth contacting the 97 Squadron Association website?

Hello Alain,

I have done some research on Donald Bowes DFC.  The last reference to him in the London Gazette shows his promotion to subtsantive Flight Lieutenant in 1946.  There is no entry listing his retirement.  There is an entry for a Donald Bowes (date of birth 01/06/1923) in the UK Death Register in January 1989, aged 66 in the Selby area of Yorkshire.

Best wishes,

Hy Alain,

I am Don's daughter. I would love to help with your research. Why are you interested in him ? I may have some facts that you do not have and some photographs. The date of birth is correct as is his death in 1989. I look forward to hearing from you .         Regards Hilary c

Sadly, that death was indeed Don Bowes, navigator in 97 Squadron. He rarely spoke about his war time experiences. His daughter, Hilary, and I are trying to piece together his story. We have many photographs.Any help much appreciated.

Michael Lee, Don's son in law

Kevin, I am currently reading your excellent book, Achieve Your Aim, which has proved very useful in starting to put together the story of Don's wartime experience. Many thanks. Michael Lee
