I am trying to find out what became of H G Somers, a Canadian mid upper gunner with 460 Squadron in 1944. He did 3 missions with the Mullins crew but they were hit by a night fighter over Frankfurt in march 1944. The aircraft was badly damages and Somers baled out due to lack of oxygen and a fire. The remaining crew, including my Uncle J A Duckworth - navigator made it back home. Somers became a POW, but I cannot find any further info about him. His number was :
R192045

Hi,
He's not listed in Footprints on the Sands of Time, or RAF Evaders.

No I couldn't find him in" Footprints " either, which is why I was seeking a date.

However I did put H.G.Somers RCAF into google and a Dutch site/news printout type article appeared-but it is all in Dutch,if there is anyone among our Dutch researchers who can enlighten me?

Thanks to all!

The incident took place on 22/23 March 1944 - 50 miles north of Frankfurt. Despite the Lanc ND392 being badly damaged - large hole in floor by bomb bay, no inter -com or oxygen they managed to put out a fire, bomb the target and get back home by star shots, at low level.   The rear gunner SGT W E Parry was badly wounded and its though Somers may also have been shot. It seems that  in the confusion and lack of oxygen/communications he baled out.  I know he became a POW but cannot find out where or what became of him in later years.
Reg Mullins RAAF  passed away in 2006 and Donald Cochrane W/O (only 15 years old at the time) passed away in Feb 2010. I am also trying to find out what became of the other crew SGT  W E Parry - who did not do any more ops - SGT  W Hendry (E) and SGT E Wilson - all British.

Thanks

Neil

Thanks Neil,

I had just found it on the 460 squadron crew spreadsheet but your account is more detailed and helpful so thanks.

I do like to know all the details.

I will see if i can locate anything else on Somers and the others.

Thanks again. I just wanted to let my Uncle know what became of his fellow crew members. He is probably the last surving member - now in his 90s.
