Information on Flt Sgt Dennis (Danny) Hughes
Permalink

Just wondering if anyone has any information/photos of my Dad, Dennis (known as Danny) Hughes, dob 17.4.1925 (died 11.3.1995), and his service in Lancaster Bomber during WWII.  Not sure what he did in crew, possibly he was either a Gunner or Navigator (Mum can't remember now).  He came from Thornton Heath in Surrey. I believe he was based in Cyprus, Egypt and later Palestine.  I would love to hear from anyone who might either remember him (bit of a long shot I know), or who has any information about him.

A good starting point for you would be to get your Dad's Service Record from RAF Cranwell. If you apply in your mum's name as next of kin she'll get the full version and it's free. Here's a link to a page where you can download the relevant form. You'll also need to download the service specfic form (RAF) from the link on the right hand column of the page:
http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/AboutDefence/CorporatePublications/PersonnelPublications/ServiceRecords/RequestFormsForServicePersonnelDetailsNextOfKinForm.htm

It can take a few weeks to come through but when you get it you'll know which squadron(s) your dad served with and what he was trained for, airgunner, navigator etc. When you have that information it will be easier for people on the forum to help.

Hope this helps

Dave
