Hi.. Can anybody help shed light on the details surrounding the death of my uncle Leading aircraftsman U/T Thomas Christopher Sharkey 1286069 R.A.F.V.R. who died on 16/04/1941. Any info re squadron.. type of aircraft.. Mission details.. etc.. From family folklore i heard my uncles bomber was damaged over target and made it back across the channel where it crashed and all crew were KIA except the rear gunner who was severely injured.. But i have not being able to find any records to support any of this.. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. . Thanks

Hi

His CWGC listing states that he was a U/T Pilot, (Under Training) this would count him out as being on board an operational bomber returning from a raid. More likely to be an accident during a training flight. His death is registered at Howden in Yorkshire, along with another, LAC Donald James White, so possible that both involved in same incident.

Regards......Alan.
