Flight Sergeant George Palamountain 1433141

Hi

Can anyone help us with any information on George Palamountain.  He was on LL678 Lily Mars, which was shot down on 12/13 June 1944.  He was one of three survivors.  We are trying to put together a history of this flight, which my husbands uncle was also on this flight.  We think Palamountain's evaded capture reference number might be 3327 - 3015.

Regards Irene & Don

Hi Irene,

I can't tell you much about the history of the flight only that they were on their return journey. They were shot down by Hptm Gerhard Friedrich of 1./NJG 6 for his 15th victory who was later killed on 16/17 March 1945 when he collided with Lancaster PB785 of 576 Sqn with 30 victories.

If you check the National Archives of Australia for P/O H S Delacour 425136 you will find his crash file on line, this may be of some help.

Do you have a photo of the crew?

Regards,

John.

Hi John

Thanks for your reply, but we know that Friedrich did not shot them down, it was Schmit. if you would like this information, please email me on Irene@MyDawkins.co.uk.
I will forward this information. We do not have a photo of the crew, we are also looking for one. We have a photo of G D Savage with Palamountain, Benham and Picton taken at Waterbeach 1944 in May.

Regards
Irene
