Squadron Leader John Jennings Edward Mahoney RCAF/RAF

Hi-Am seeking this man or his family.

I have plenty of info on him-just need contact with him or his family.

Squadron Leader John Jennings Edward Mahoney (40182)from Ottawa-enlisted July 1937.Shot down in 149 squadron ,12/3/1941.and a pow for 21 months.Left RAF in 1964.Went on  to Queens University where he received a BA,becoming a stock market analyst.

In 1978 he was living in Toronto.

Hi Linda,

Searched our database for this guy (149 Sqn) or relatives who are members of the Mildenhall Register. I can find no records for him with 149 Sqn at that date.

Hi Alan,

 

After reading your comments and looking at the ( PoW for 21 months, re: Linda ) ........ I had a look at around the 12th of March 1943 ........ thinking it would be listed. There are two 149 Sqn aircraft listed but no crew member with this gentlemans name.

The reason you cannot find anything on him for 1941, is that this man was not shot down on the date given. It was 23/08/43 when he was shot down in 149sqdn Stirling BK765, whilst on ops to Berlin.

Hi Linda,

Have found the ORB for the last flight. I have searched the database for him/relatives, but no joy :( Could I enquire as to your interest? As 149 Sqn Historian I am always looking for more information on members of the Squadron :)

It is for a project for the Aircrew Rememberance Society that is being worked on and Squadron Leader Mahoney seems to have vanished  into thin air,which is why I am appealing for help with anyone in Canada that may have come across him  or  his family-we know he had a son in approx 1942/3 before being shot down...Various snippets about him and he has written 2 pow diaries.

Also in touch with the grandson of his rear gunner Aardt who would also like to trace him but had no luck.Many thanks
