My father was a tail gunner in a Halifax during the war. He was shot down and survived but he heard that the tail turret was removed and sent to Germany where it is ina museum. |Does anybody know if this is correct?
I have logged on to this site as Malacant. I am trying to find more info on my fathers aircraft. I do remember visiting the farm where his Halifax was shot down and from there we went to a still operational airfield where he was taken when he was captured. If I find anymore info I'll let you know.
I have found the records of the last mission of the Halifax. It' s number was HK 750 or HR 750 of 51 Squadron. It was shot down on May 28th 1943 on a bombing run to Essen. At 0130 he was hit by flak which set fire to the starboard inner engine, moments later they were attacked by a ME110 and abandoned the aircraft. The aircraft came down in Oud-Reemst not far from Oosterbeek. My father managed to find a farm and he hid in a dog kennel overnight. He was taken to Arnhem and ended up in Stalagluft 6 at Hydekrug in Lthuania on June 24th. His service number was 1319196 and was a Warrant Officer. The radio Operator I mentioned was Hector "Mac" Court from Scotland. I still have my fathers wartime log and documents about the raid they were on when shot down. A gentleman in Holland did some research on this aircraft, his name is Joop Seepermann but this was in 1988 so I don't know if he is still around. Any info would be appreciated.
This is a good idea. I know that children love animation and different variations of fairy tales. I recently looked at ideas for winter festivals and found this site https://gradesfixer.com/. People share their stories and ideas that sometimes make you embarrassed. I dont know what could prevent creating a winter atmosphere with a Christmas mood. Do not thank me for the ideas.
