I am trying to find any information available about the following Polish Airman of 138 Squadron:

Tadeusz Piotr ZABICKI, Flight Sergeant P-781302, Polish Air Force, dob 16 MAY 1920, shot down on 24 June 1943 in Holland.  He is buried at AMSTERDAM NEW EASTERN CEMETERY, Noord-Holland, Netherlands. Collective Grave 62.  Any service records would be great but I am looking in particular for personal details of parents, place of birth etc, but have no idea if such are available anywhere.

Thank you

Jenny

Jenny,

This is the crew that was lost along side F/Sgt Zabicki on 24th June 43.

P1805, F/O W.S. Kalkus, Pilot.

781305, F/Sgt T. Zabicki, 2nd Pilot.

780137, F/Sgt W. Cisinski, Nav.

781211, Sgt S. Roerh, F/Eng.

780605, F/Sgt K. Kidziak, W/Op-A/G.

780853, F/Sgt J. Rek, A/G.

794445, Sgt E. Kasperowicz, A/G.

138sqdn Operations Record Book, only records the name of the captain of each aircraft for each operation, and this is the list of ops flown by this crew.....

1943....

13th June, France, Operation ****le.

14th June, France, Operation Othello.

15th June, France, Operation Scientist 30.

17th June, France, Operation Scientist 61.

20th June, France, Operation Roach 40/41/42.

21st June, France, Operation Physician 58.

24th June, Operations details not recorded, missing.

You could try going to the forum at www.rafcommands.com and ask if there's anyone on there (very probable) that can point you in the direction of finding the details you are seeking. I seem to remember there are several members there that specialise in  Polish and Czech personnel.

Alan.

Jenny,

Here`s the handful of details on Sgt pilot Tadeusz Zabicki compiled from the book by M. Hasinski "The Polish Air Force N.C.O.`s Training School" and archival documents of 300 Sqn. :

Born 16th May 1920 in Brzeznica (Jedrzejow district) in Poland. In Jedrzejow he completed his elementary education and a further two years at Grammar School. He entered The Polish Air Force N.C.O.`s Training School in Swiecie in 1938. Owing to outbrak of the war in September 1939, all training ceased and he, together with the entire Pilot`s Training Unit was evacuated to Romania.

After reaching France, he requested transfer to Great Britain. At he beginning of 1941 he began the theoretical course for aircrew candidates. He commenced his pilot`s training on 5th April 1941, completing his training on 9th May 1941. On the following day he returned to the Blackpool Base to await further training. He began his service flying course on 24th May,  completing the course on 6th August. After returning from leave, he was assigned to undergo his operational training on 16th August to the No. 18. Operational Training Unit at Bramcote. Then he reported on 9th October 1941 to the 300 (Polish) Bomber Squadron. After completing his operational tour of 38 sorties, on 19th July 1942 he was assigned to the No. 18 OTU to take a rest from operational flying and to serve as flying instructor. He returned to operational flying on 21st Jan. 1943 with the 138 Special Duties Squadron. He was killed on 24th June 1943 while flying a SOE mission. His aircraft was shot down by flak and night fighter over Holland.

He was decorated with the Silver Cross of Virtuti MIlitari no 9462, The Cross of Valour and three bars, The  Air Medal and one bar as well as British decorations.

I hope that you would find it of interest.

Greg
