Hi, looked at the site previously, but this is my first post.
It's a long shot, but does anyone (or can anyone) find anything out about William Leak?
He was my maternal grandfather, served in the RAF during the war - but apart from the following vague details, we know very little about him, such as rank or number
* We have a photo off him at RAF Blyton around the time of HCU 1662 and No 7 Training Group
* He was apparently a Navigator
* At some point, probably when the unit at Blyton was disbanded, we believe he ended up at RAF Cardington.
I ave searched online and the only Leak I can find, who was also a Navigator, but was in the RAAF and unfortunately, was killed in action.
Any help or even signposting would be appreciated.
Thanks
edit
As an update, I have managed to find out where he was at Christmas 1940, Christmas 42 and also Christmases 43 and 44! Still very little about his roles there though

Secondly, if he had more than one forename, is William his first forename (as, for example, many in my family used their second forename when referring to themselves)
Looking at Form B No.1391 ordering 101 Squadron aircraft to attack Homberg on July 20/21 1944, all ABC aircraft were to take 1 X 4000lb. HC; 12 X 500lb. MC or GP Fused TD 0.025, 4 X 500lb. MC or GP Fused LD 6-144 HRS

Hi Thanks for the reply.
I had looked on there (and looked since you sent the link through) and there is nothing.
Checked his name and he was just William Leak - no middle names, no nothing.
However, I have found his book from discharge from RAF Cardington 4th Dec 45 - where he achieved the rank of CPL and it suggests work in radio or electrical industries.
edit: Manston Christmas 40
Cardington Christmas 42
Blyton Christmas 43 and 44
Cardington 4th December 45

We don't have any information relating to 101 Squadron - the places we have him at, 101 weren't.
That puts him in the range 965000 to 1149977 which was used for those who enlisted at Padgate between September 1939 and April 1941. It may be worth checking alternative spellings of Leak (Leake, Leek, Leeke etc) on AIR78 to see if you can match the service number.
Alternatively, you could apply for his service record, as this will provide you with the information you are looking for.
Regards
Pete
