My uncle JRS Leask, aged 36,flew as F/Eng. with Australian pilot PO-FL Edmonds in 90 Squadron Lancasters from Tuddenham from Oct 44-Mar 45.The last aircraft they flew was PA-167/ K-King,about 10 Ops.Can anyone say whether this aircraft was a GH Leader??
They were tour expired in Mar 45 Edmonds DFC and Leask DFM
There is no right or wrong answer to your question.
A GH equipped aircraft would have been identified by the two horizontal yellow bars on the tail. However the aircraft may have had this marking but not necessarily been equipped with the apparatus on every operation. There was an acute shortage of GH between Oct 1944 and February 1945. I have a document which may answer your question but it again does not necessarily mean it was a GH Leader on every operation. Give me a few days and I will find out.

Thank you for you most informative reply Steve-regardless of the negativity-it is a start to understanding the issue of GH to day bomber squadrons-I certainly look forward to "hearing" from you again.
