If anyone has info of the raid to wurzburg march 1945 when my wife's uncle was lost he was a rear gunner in LL617 Lm260 His name was sergeant John David Baker known as jack. We know that the crew are buried in Durnbach but know little of the actual events which led to the aircraft being lost , any info would be great
I don't have much at all, but I can give you the other crew members and their positions that night.
16/17 March 45. Target: Wurzburg. W/Off D. I. Plumb and crew took off from
East Kirkby at 17:44 hours. All are buried in Durnbach War Cemetery. Both gunners were aged 19 years.

I have a copy of the 630sqdn Operations Record Book, and also copies of Bomber Command Night Raid Reports, including the report for the raid concerned, i'll get back to you.

just to add what Wayne and Alan have contributed there is a slim chance that Lancaster LM260 was shot down by Oblt. Erich Jung of 5./NJG2.
The Luftwaffe pilot has a claim for one of five possible Lancaster's for 16/17 March 1945. Combat taking place Würzburg (RU, RA, SU, SA): at 2.000 m Height, Time 21.43-45.
The Lancaster's are:- NG352 of 49 Sqn, RF176 of 61 Sqn, PD231 of 467 Sqn, NG503 of 519 Sqn, or LM260 of 630 Sqn.

I will do as you suggest and see what I can discover. it would be really nice to make contact with the families of the remaining three and to include them in the research that has been done. Obviously they would have to be in agreement with this, but it would complete the story so to speak. If I discover uncover any history, I will let you know. Again Thanks.
