22/23 Oct 1943 78 Sqn Halifax II LW301 EY-C Op: Kassel

T/o 1727 Breighton. Crashed approximately 2100 at Obervellmar in the northern outskirts of Kassel. Those who died lie in Hanover war cemetery.

According to Theo Boitens Nachtjagd War Diaries Vol 1, the halifax was shot down by Oblt. Gustav Tam of II./NJG5 at 2102 hrs.

My father was Don Hemelik. he was on the Halifax with John and was shot down and in the same prison camp as John. Thy met again in Devon in 2005/6 when John came down to stay with my dad. i have some photos of the crew if you want me to send them.
