I'm Julie Bell Bradford West Yorkshire England. I hv some information - on my grd father Walter Bell. He was a Mechanic/Engineer, based in Lincolnshire, but I don't know if he was part of 619 or 626 Squadron. I do know, the Squadron he was with, was next to The Dambuster's Base, in Lincolnshire. Walter was from Shipley, Bradford, West Yorkshire; England. He joined the Squadron 1943, after training as an Air Cadet April 1941 at Topcliffe, Yorkshire. Then in Scotland, as part of Air+ Sea Rescue, then in Lincolnshire 1943. jcbell45@gmail.com

Julie,

Mechanic/Engineer could possibly point to him being Groundcrew, and unfortunately, Groundcrew are not as well documented as what Aircrew are. There is a slim chance that "Engineer" may point to him being a Flight Engineer in Aircrew, especially as you say he was with ASR at some stage, but unless you have any other snippets of information pointing in that direction, it might be hard to find anything on him. I have copies of the 619 and 626 Squadron Operations Record Books and can have a scan through them to see if he turns up in any crew lists, but that will take some time. Meanwhile, if you can let me have any other info, no matter how small, it may help.

Regards...Alan.
