Hi folks, here is a strange one ! I met yesterday with the grandson of my Dad's BombAimer, Flt. Lt. Malcolm Dingwall. Glenn, the grandson,  recalled some stories his Grandfather had told him, including one very strange one ....Glenn recalled his grandfather telling him that the groundcrew at 405 squadron would somehow attach bottlecaps ( !) to the Lancaster's tires, so that when the undercart was lowered the tires would spin and the Lanc would have a smoother landing !! Is this a case of misremembering, or a tall tale told to a grandson?  Anyone have any input....?? Cheers, Clint.
