Hi all, new to the forum so first of all a big hello and it is nice to be here.
About one year ago I purchased a Lancaster pilots helmet (images attached below). Love it to bits, and have been doing some research on it via trolling Google results. I know it was owned by Flight Lieutanant Clyde Frederick Adams Clothier who flew with 51 Squadron & 101 Squadron out of Ludford Magna with the famous ABC radar.
I have lists of the missions the helmet flew and other bits and pieces, although one thing that doesn't appear to be possible to find anywhere is a photo of the man himself. Would love to find out if one exists at all. Here is what I know so far about the man himself:
CLOTHIER, Clyde Frederick Adams (146833) 51 & 101 Squadron (Ludford Magna - Lincolnshire) (2 tours) Distinguished Flying Cross - June 27, 1944
Below is the initial auction from Barnes and Wallis where his helmet, logbook, and medals were sold as a set. What I love about the helmet is the amazing condition it is in, nothing is missing, and this is a set as it flew in wartime. Not made up afterwards from seperate items.
If anyone is able to lend a hand on possibly tracking down a picture of the man who flew in the helmet I would be eternally grateful.
