My uncle Dick Winchester flew with the John Lyon's crew. It appears their main plane was Landcaster PD268 SR-O but their final flight was in LM755. My uncle was the only survivor when on a mission to Dortmund (Nov 28-29, 1944) the plane crashed.
I read an article in the magazine Slipstream an article (An Airborne Cigar Operator) written by Ross Kenrick that they referred to themselves as the "Limping Lyons". This is what he wrote "We called ourselves the 'Limping Lyons' and had a shield painted on the aircraft near the pilot's window. ln the top half of the shield was a lion rampant, carrying a bomb. In the lower left quarter, was a chipmunk carrying a gun and in the lower right, a kangaroo wearing earphones".
What I am looking for is a photo of copy of that shield. If anyone could direct me to a person or site where I might find one, it would be greatly appreciated.
My name is Ric Winchester. I am Dick's son, Judy's brother and also your cousin. I just found this site, saw this post and thought I would reach out to you. You may call or text me at (306) 550 - 5292. I don't have a photo of the crest you refer to in your post but I do have quite a few other documents and photos. Some time ago Judy sent me an email she received from you which mentioned Ludford Magna. I am currently in Ottawa and will be heading home to Regina, Sask. on Thursday May 02.
