My Dad's logbook lists a series of numbers under the heading " Duty " while learning to fly the Tiger Moth in 1942. I am assuming these are maneuvers or exercises to perform. For example "1-1a-2-3-....18-18a". Does a list explaining what each number represents survive? If anyone has any insight or further info , it would be appreciated.
The exercise numbers varied across the EFTS, so it is difficult to match an individual log to specific exercises. However, as a rough guide, here is one example of the exercises undertaken:
01. Familiarisation with ****pit layout 02. Preparation for flight 03. Air Experience 04. Effect of controls 05. Taxying 06. Straight and level Flight 07. Climbing, descending and stalling 08. Medium turns 09. Gliding and Climbing Turns 10. Taking off into wind 11. Power approach and landing 12. Glide approach and landing 13. Spinning 14. First Solo 15. Sideslipping 16. Steep Turns 17. Instrument Flying 18. Low Flying 19. Taking off and landing out of wind 20. Precautionary landings 21. Forced Landings 22. Action in event of fire 23. Re-starting the engine in flight 24. Aerobatics 25. Night Flying 26. Pilot Navigation 27. Formation Flying
I have other listings which show a similar set of exercises, but with differing numbers
Regards
Pete
