My father (1928-2015) witnessed the crash of above Lancaster NN741 (PH-O) of Wickenby´s 12. Squadron just 50 minutes after midnight on 8. March 1945 in Neckartenzlingen (near Stuttgart), Germany. The bomber had been on a mission to Dessau in eastern Germany that night and was completely off its course when it was shot down over Nürtingen in southern German by anti-aircraft fire rom the ground. The plane rapidly lost altitude, crashed on a field and burned out completely. Everbody on board was killed. My question is: Does anybody have any information/photos regarding the members of the CREW of this ill-fated flight? I would also very much appreciate any photos of their airplane. The men were Pilot Officer Flight Lieutenant Denis Belot, Bomb Aimer Flight Sergeant Percy Cotton, Navigator Flight Sergeant Clifford Daintith, Flight Engineer Sergeant Ernest Trott, Air Gunner Flight Sergeant William Burbidge, Radio Operator John Herbert Tinsley (RAAF) and the Air Gunner Sergeant Lawrence Sahiel-Gosling.
John Herbert Tinsley crash file is on line in our National Archives of Australia you can view it by using his service number 428373. His service file is open but not on line and it will cost you $36.00 (Aus) to have it digitise.
