Can you tell us where you are located so we can direct you where to begin?
Service records can be obtained for all non living crew members, I am not cetain if there is a charge for out of country requests. I know of a very good local researcher that will go to the national archives and copy the full service records for about $25 Canadian per airmen.
Is there anything in particular you were looking for?
Can anyone tell me where the crew member Edgar Clark RAF came from. Was he killed or was he also a POW.I couldnt find him on the Commonwealth War Graves site?
No,I am not related to Herbert Edgar Clark but thought as i am in England, might try & trace his family & see if they have any info. as i have had a bit of luck with other aircrew members in the past.If i do find out anything i will let you know.
I have just found a copy of Edmond Wilsons death certificate.Born in Ontario of Scottish descent.Address 120 Prince Street.,(place name looks like Oshawa)Born July 2nd 1921.aged 23. In airforce 3 years.Father David Wilson, mother Margaret, both Scottish. Death registration signed at Ottawa on 6.7.1945. He was also married.
Some information: Ken Wilson was still living, when he reached the ground. He had been transported to a POW-Camp in Düsseldorf (which was near my home). There he died on the same day (21.11.1944) at 11:45 PM.
A couple years ago Ken’s widow contacted Jim McPhee. He told me that she emigrated to Australia and that they didn’t had contact to each other.
It would be great to find Mrs Wilson (if she is still living and she kept the name Wilson). Maybe she is still interested about further details to he husband (and where he died).
Ab Steeves (the pilot) died a couple years ago in Canada. I don’t know much about him. Jim met him in the 1970s. Maybe he has children who are interested…
And of course I’m looking for any details regarding the rest of the crew (ages, etc.)...
Tom
P.S. I got a couple of new information in this great forum!!!
Hi-Glad to be of help-if you have an e mail addy i can scan and send the death registration to you.?I will keep looking for the rest (Mrs Wilson). My e mail is on the write ups in the aircrew section.
Regarding Tom's request for further detailed information :
Commonwealth War Graves Commission & Canadian Virtual War Memorial are two on-line resources as long as named airmen were fatalities .
Educational qualifications etc are not usually recorded on either .
Individual squadron sites are usually more forthcoming - it may be useful to explore the RCAF Daily Operations site .
regards
jettisoning
If you are trying to get a better understanding of 408 sqn while they were stationed at Linton on Ouse I would recommend the book Boys, Bombs and Brussell Sprouts by Douglas Harvey. He was pilot with 408 and his book is an enjoyable read, you can find it on Amazon.
With the help of very many people in Germany and DR JA McPhee and other crew relatives we have as complete a story of the last operation and its finale as anyone can. I can share the information with connected people in the proper forum. That may not be in an open public environment and appropriate permissions would be needed. There is a great deal to relate. At last light has been shed on an issue which has troubled me through my life. There has been little officially to aid my search and close cooperation with German friends has had remarkable results.
