Richard Seymour Clinton was an American, born in Whitney Point,New York .He joined the RCAF and flew in 425 Squadron,George Rowe & joe Latremouille were in his crew at the time. He died in New York in 1948. After the war i have found out that from August 1945 to November 1947 he was pilotting planes with US crew back and forth to New York. e.g. 2.8.1945 he left Stephenville,Newfoundland in aircraft 2206 consigned to AEA-ATC owned by the U.S. Govnt. Other crew members-Capt. Frederick Spear,Nav. Harry Siegel,Eng. Cornelius Dineen,R/Op Robert Norrid & FTC Robert Hunker, all USA. On 14.8.1945 he left Stephenville,Newfoundland accrying another USA crew for New York. On 23.8.1945, again Stephenville to New York flying for Transport Command, plane no 2271 with yet another listed crew, all USA. On 9.9.1945 he flew from goose bay,Newfoundland to Lagaurdia,New York, plane 2177 with a names crew of US military passengers. On 20.9.1945, he flew more named USA from Bermuda to New york. On 6.10.1945 he flew plane 2289 from Goose Bay to New york with a named USA crew for a Capt George Burgard who was capt. On 28.10.1945 he flew from Gander, newfoundland to New York in plane 2461 (ATC) for a capt Berkeley Brandt & all USA crew On 17.11.1945 He flew from Gander to New York.with named USA crew. On 23.12.1945 he left New brunswick for New york with USA named crew On 2.6.1947 he left Shannon,Ireland for New York with more named USA named crew (Capt. Maguire) On 28.7.1947 he left Shannon for New York with a Capt McGeoghan & all named USA crew. On 5.9.1947 he left Shannon for New York with all USA named crew, captained by Frederick Anderson On 27.9.1947 he left Shannon for New York, all USA named crew,Capt James Blackman.
Can anyone tell me why he would of been flying all these USA crews back & forth?
He was also awarded the |DFC (award effective from 1.7.1943) while in 425 Sqdn.Trained at No 1 ITS,No9 EFTS & No 5 SFTS & commissioned in 1942.Received his DFC from King George on 19th Oct. 1943. Any crew photos out there from his time in 425 Sqdn?
Thanks for that info, Matt.Yes that makes sense. I have no details of his death apart from that his death registered in New York in 1948.Shame he survived the war to die when he was 35.
On most of the flight details it states "no passengers". Would these ferry flights be something that returning American aircrew did as a job after the war? A lot of the entries are stamped U.S.Military Passengers of which there were only the crew. Some were stamped "crew list Department of Justice, immigration and naturalization service" On another it says American export lines inc. The crew names are all different on each trip. I found these when i was researching George Rowe that he flew with and was trying to find out if Richard Clinton stayed in 425 or changed squadrons!
