RAF Bomber Command Losses, W R Chorley Vol 1 - 9
Permalink

Hi to all,

Hoping somebody may be able to inform me regarding the RAF Bomber Command Losses, by W R Chorley,  Volume 1 - 8.     I would appreciate it if someone could clarify the various questions, thank you.

Does volume 8 have the combined details of 1 - 7 ?

Does Volume 9, which contains 57,000 entries,  is a  Roll of Honour to Bomber Command / those that served ......... would this volume contain combined details of vol. 1 - 8 ?

I trying to establish whether you need to buy all or just volumes 8-9 or just 9?

Many thanks.
John

Hi John
Vol 8 covers Heavy Conversion Units plus other units like Lancaster Finishing Schools, Station Flights etc. At the back is a list of amendments to Vol 7. Vol 9 is a Roll of Honour with each year a separate chapter and with sections for RAAF,RCAF etc it does not contain details of individual a/c losses but among the names are those  of Aircrew that were brought back dead, baled out, or otherwise were part of the crews of a/c that made it back and were not themselves losses and thus are  not in the other volumes.
Regards
Dick

Hi to all,

Thanks Dick for your reply. I appreciate you taking the time to make contact.

A gentleman by the name of Dennis Over, who flew with several squadrons including 227 squadron, has given me the full breakdown on the WR Chorley books regarding Bomber Command losses.

Dennis has became a good friend since our first contact some time ago and like all ex Bomber Command personnel, he is held in the highest regard.
