On it's way to Australia, the Halifax landed at a cove in Nova Scotia on the east coast of Canada. The people liked it so much they took it as a souvenir, and named a city after it.

Sorry Mates!

As a proud Aussie and someone who spends any spare time researching Bomber Command topics, I can assure you that this is the very first I know of this aircraft. Wish it was here !

But Halibomber, you can still come and visit us in Halifax. We soon may see LW170 as it passes on it's way to Alberta.

i said there were several pictures of 'waltzing matilda' around - and spoke of one taken at radlett prior to departure to australia .

browsing through my copy of Merrick's 'THE HANDLEY PAGE HALIFAX' (1990 Edition) i suddenly came across NR169/G-AGXA after arrival in australia .

p 181  caption 'G-AGXA , the second halifax on the civil register , photographed in australia during a fund-raising effort for the RAF Benevolent Fund and the RAAF Welfare Fund .'

I have the letter from the co Pilot of Waltzing Matilda written the day after they got to sydney with her description of the trip, also her later much enlarged and typed story by Audrey Morgan.

I wanted to come too but did not have 300 pounds.  So I had to wait to 1958 to get to Australia.

The above post was a long time ago but, If the person who wrote this post is still around I would like to make contact.  That letter by Audrey could be of great use to some people planing to product a doco on the Waltzing Matilda Flight.  tworiversmedia1@gmail.com
