Yes, ED916 shot down on the night of 12/13 June at 01.50 hours by Oblt. Werner Rapp of 7./NJG1 over Nieuweroord, 6km east of Hoogeveen at an altitude of 6.300m whilst attacking Bochum.  Rapp was scrambled from his base at Twente, flying Bf110 G9+AR, being vectored onto his target by JLO Oblt Elsken.  Half an hour later he scored his second abschuss of the night shooting down Halifax DT616 of 419 squadron, his 9th overall victory.

I have information about this Lancaster. I have a letter and two postcards written by the pilot Guy King to my late mother, who at the time of his death was engaged to Frank Jay, one of the aircrew killed in the incident. The communications were sent from Stalag Luft III (Nord), where Guy King was being held as a POW.

I have scanned the letter and cards and will be pleased to send them to interested parties.

This website also has information about the incident: http://www.kontaktnieuwbalinge.eu/2009/02.htm#Het_verhaal_van_de_Lancaster,_die_in_juni_1943_is_neergestort .

It's only possible to attach image files to posts here, and my letter scans are in PDF format.

If you would like me to send you copies, please send an email to me at the following address: activeboard <the traditional sort-of-circular 'a" used in email addresses> <the initial letters of each of the following words: alpha foxtrot papa victor> .com. If you follow these instructions successfully, the email address will look like this: activeboard<symbol>AAAA.com, where A equals a letter of the alphabet. Put "Request for POW letters" in the subject line.
