Hi, very new to this forum, just joined minutes ago!!
I'm researching a Halifax 111 HD-J (LV826) came down possibly in Belgium on the night of 12th May 1944.I have looked at the dedicated web sites that feature this and other aircraft from 466 Sqn RAAF lost during various op's. If anyone knows anything about this particular aircraft i would be most grateful indeed.John Blakeley very kindly gave advise about a book recently published about the Sqn, which is pending order. Many thanks for reading my request.
Hi David, Suggest you contact Alexandre Bonnet in Belgium. He has done a lot of research on aircraft that were shot down over Belgium he may be able to help you, here is Alexandre's email address, feel free to let him know that you got his address form me it might help introduce you. bonnet.alexandre@skynet.be
BTW. I was in St Andrews just a few years ago at the university library when I was researching Wing Commander J. Coverdale, C.O. 431 R.C.A.F. Sqdn. whose wife was from there. I was born in Glasgow. Good luck with your search. Bill Heron/Niagara
The casualty files of five Austalian crew members on LV826 are at the National Archives of Australia however none of these files have been scanned yet, so they can not be viewed on line.
The file header for some of them states "at sea, off Belgium". This fits their records at CWGC-all are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, which means that they have no known grave.

The 466 Sqn ORB is on-line at NA Australia and shows the remainder of crew were RAF-
I've looked in my database of aircraft crashed in Belgium but can't find any crashplace for the LV826 on Belgian territory. According to the book "Nachtjagd War Diaries, an operational history of the German Night fighter force in the West" from Dr Theo Boiten (from Holland) and Roderick Mackenzie: The victory on the LV826 was probably achieved by Hauptmann Ernst-Wilhelm Modrow,Staffelkapitein of 1/NJG 1, whilst operating under Himmelbett guidance in the area "Hamster" (Domburg/ Walcheren) on the South West Dutch coast. I've looked in my notes of the Belgian Secret Army (from agent code D39-LH19) about the bombing of Hasselt on the 12/13 of May 1944 but nothing else is mentioned than the results of the bombing of that night. According to: http://www.lesbutler.ip3.co.uk/tony/tonywood.htm, "claims West" "Abschuss" (shooting down) at 3500 meters altitude, 01.00 Hrs by Modrow Ernst, "Auf See" which means off sea. Filmroll: C.2027/I","Anerk: Nr.64 (Anerk from Anerkannt which means "certified" Regards,
Alexander

Not sure if you'll get this, but I thought I'd let you know that my maternal grandfather was the pilot of that plane - Eric Henry Gaggin. I am interested in finding out more about the crew and what they did.
I have the book on 466/462 Sqn "Brave and True" and according to it they went in 20 bombing trips and one gardening trip, starting with a bombing trip to Madgeburg on 21/22 Jan 1944. If you want a list of all their Ops let me know and I'll post them up.
I am trying to find out more about my Uncle Nelson Bowmn d, he died 22/june 1944 in the Halifax aircraft LW 116, if you know anything about his sqaudron 466 RAAF or can send me in the right direction that would be great

Hi Colin,
Have a look here: http://www.halifaxlv827.co.uk/lw116.htm
You also may wish to have your uncle's casualty repatriation file digitized at the NAA as there will undoubtedly be plenty of information on him and his crew:
