I am trying to trace my late fathers wartime service in 35 squadron pff. I have his service records, some of the station(RAF Graveley) ORBs for 1945-from Cambridgeshire archives-a very interesting article on bbc website-  http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/21/a3114721.shtml  -which mentions him (Ted Herod). I have also borrowed we act with one accord from the library-he must have been interviewed by the author as chapter 17 mentions the crew and some missions, and have a copy of Pathfinder force by Gordon Musgrove.. The crew list is
F/O L.B.LAWSON PILOT Kiwi-from New Zealand.
F/O J.P.LEYDON NAVIGATOR-I think a Canadian
F/O A.J.CARD - AIR BOMBER-now living in Canada.
F/O G.E.HEROD - WIRELESS OPERATOR-deceased
SGT S.R.GALE - ?mid gunner?-deceased
SGT L. NICHOLSON - REAR GUNNER-living in Leicestershire
SGT F. EDMUNDSON - FLIGHT ENGINEER-unknown.
Does anyone have any suggestions for finding more details or do you remember any of these or the 1944/45 period at Graveley.
Thanks for your time.
Paul H ( near Graveley Cambs)

Paul,
By chance, I saw your post about trying to find some detail about your father. I am the Patron of the PFF Association in Australia and the Life President is a chap named Allan Vial, who was on 35SQN as a nav during the time you speak of. Allan is now 85 and lives on the Gold Coast south of Brisbane but has a tremendous memory and also collection of records and data from that time. AVM Don Bennett bequeathed all his personal records to Allan on the undertaking that they be placed in a Museum near his birthplace in Southern Queensland. That activity is now underway.
I would say that if you contacted Allan (email is: alnal@NOSPAMctmc.com.au remove NOSPAM from address) and asked what you are seeking, he may be able to help. I am not certain about his records on the groundcrew fellers but he certainly has much on the crews etc..
I know not when you posted the request, hopefully it was relatively recent!

Paul,
I posted a contact for you to explore re-your father. See above. The email was corrupted by the system and unfortunately inserted the words 'NOSPAM" for some reason. Allan's email is  'alnal@ctmc.com.au . If you have any queries, get back to me on this forum

If you'd like contact me at roful@sympatico.ca.  I have a really nice wartime photo of Lancaster TL-S in flight of No. 35 (PFF) Squadron RAF Gravely that somehow my Dad obtained in his scrapbook when he served overseas.  It may interest you and I can send you a scan.

I don't know the serial but 35 Squadron only flew the Lanc in the late war period approximately when your Dad served.

Cheers,
Bob

Correction - that's TL-C as in "Charlie" not S as in "Sugar" - my mistake.
