Info Request: M.M. Sandomirsky RCAF Squadron 153
Permalink

Hello,

I recently discovered a distant family relative, my grandmother's first cousin, who died in the war. Marvin Max Sandomirsky was a warrant office class II, who died on March 3, 1945 in a mine laying operation. His enlistment number is R-181716. On the night of his death, he was part a crewman on Lancaster Bomber LM750, piloted by Leo Gregoire.

I am looking for any information regarding his activities during the war (I believe he was a navigator), the men he served with, or any photos. My grandmother has a handful of unmarked photographs of men in uniform and I would love to match a face to the name. My grandmother died ten years ago and never mentioned the death of her first cousin.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Details of luftwaffe claims for the 3rd & 4th of March 45, list 15 lancasters lost on those dates. All 'claims' that I could find were completely away from the relevant areas around the Baltic Sea, with two exceptions.

Maj. Werner Husemann, from Staffel Stab I, Unit NJG3, claimed two 'victories', one being at approx: East of Aarhus, Demark and the other claim was in Northern Germany, a place called Bourtanger Moor.

Being that these two areas are north west & south west of the Baltic Sea and all other claims were basically in the south of Germany, it is quite possible ( with the exception of being hit by Flak ) that this Luftwaffe pilots claims may have been LM750, in one of the listed areas.

Hope these details are of some help.
John

Apologies for reviving an old thread.

J Sandomirsky did not leave any contact information. As I am continuing my research on M.M Sandomirsky, I am hoping that Mr. Sandomirsky sees this thread and responds once more.

Apologies, once more.

Hello I have an H2S photograph taken by Sandomorsky on one of his earlier raids. It a photo of the H2S screen over the target. I was given it by a 153 Squadron veteran who was a pal of his. Email me on mjc41ukATyahoo.co.uk and I will send you a copy. I also have a 153 Roll of Honour. Cheers B

Just a long shot here - anyone got any photographs of PB642 please - I'm Hon Sec of 153 Sqn Association and am researching the final mission of this particular aircraft (already have a German contact who's sent me some fragments from the crash site).  We are trying to locate relatives of the 7 young airmen lost on their first raid in this aircraft and to put something together in memorium (including photographs).  Anything at all would be gratefully received.  Please email me on jillsaunders@yahoo.com

Thanking you in anticipation.
