Hi, new to this site.

Looking for information about my uncle, Terrance McAran who served with 432.

I have a pic of the crew but am not sure how to post it here on the site.

From http://6grouprcaf.com/Nov44/Nov644.html

F/O F. Eilertson, RCAF (POW) and crew flying Halifax VII NP-815 coded QO-A, failed to return from this operation. Target was Gelsenkirchen.

Sgt. C. Vaughan, RAF--POW
F/O F. Morrissey, RCAF--POW
F/O J. Hossie, RCAF--POW
F/Sgt. C. MacDonald, RCAF--POW
P/O T. McAran, RCAF +
P/O. N. Stuttle, RCAF +

The 2 gunners were killed and the rest were POWs.

Page 479 of Bill Chorley's 1944 Bomber Command Losses has the same information but adds a takeoff time of 1216 from East Moor and says your uncle and the rear gunner Stuttle lie at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery:

Bomb Aimer Len Hossie::

In November, 1943, Len was posted overseas for active duty and after a hectic training schedule in England, he was flying in Operations by September, 1944. This continued till early in November, 1944, when after releasing a bomb load over the German industrial Ruhr Valley, the German anti-aircraft did a job on the Halifax Bomber. Thanks to a parachute, Len lived to spend the balance of the war in a P.O.W. Camp. He was released by the Russian Army in May, 1945 and was home in Toronto by July, 1945.

Hi "Anonymous"
Would you like to ask Matt  to add the crew photo to the 432 Squadron gallery?

It would be a nice addition?

Thank you so much.  I had some of the info, but this completes it.  (Never knew details of the mission before)

Still kind of emotional after all these years for an uncle I never knew and when one thinks what that generation experienced...

I will post some pics on another response in this forum.

Good day Air Commodore Linda;

Now that I am one of the crew I have found the way to post my pic, thank you.

My uncle, P/O T. McAran, RCAF is front row center, and I know from other correspondance that Sgt. C. Vaughan, RAF (now deceased)is back row left.  Interesting the crew was all Canadian but one.

If any one knows anything of the others it would be nice to hear.

Keep up the good work.

Marty Gregory

Yes, I would like to see that pic in the gallery.  Where can I see the gallery for myself? All I am seeing here is the forum.

Hello Marty. I Have another crew pic with names if you wish.  The McAran file may be of interest to you that is held in Ottawa at the Archives. Your uncle was gravely injured, but vacated the Halifax.
Richard.

Hi Richard;

I would much appreciate that.  Do you have a link or address I can go to?

Just curious, how do you know that?

Regards;

Marty Gregory

A great crew photo-when I return from my short holiday,I shall  sort it out for you.
If you go to the main page for the site and "galleries" at the top,the RCAF squadrons will be on the drop down menu.

Hi,  I have just been researching for my daughter about WW2 as she is studying this at school and her great grandad was sargeant Cyril Vaughan.  Although i was aware of what happened to him, i was interested in trying to find something on the net that i was able to print off for her to take to school.  The information you have posted has been of some help to me!  My grandad unfortunately passed away on the 2/11/85 and was buried around the date of the anniversary of when they were shot down over Germany.  The only knowledge i know of his injuries is that he was serverly burnt and ended up in  a German hospital until he was well enough and transferred to Stalag Luft III where he became a POW unitl he was released in 1945.
