Been the first time I've posted a request for information on a aircraft that was transferred from RAF Scampton in May 1943 to 1660 HCU. My late Uncle was a Pilot with 57 Squadron at Scampton,In May he was Transferred to 1660 HCU together with the Aircraft he flew in 57 Squadron. This Aircraft was Lancaster W4232. Iwould like to know if anyone has any information on this Aircraft and my Uncle George. William. Curry DFC While at 1660 HCU.
Hi, Your uncle, Sqd/Ldr G.W. Curry, DFC & Bar, DSO & Bar, was posted to 1660 CU on 15th April 43, (not May). His last operation with 57sqdn was on the night of 29/30th March 43, to Berlin. Lancaster W4232, did not go to 1660 CU, but stayed with the squadron. He also flew W4252, but this also stayed with the squadron. Posted from 23 OTU to 57sqdn 19/09/42. Previous to this with 75sqdn, and 627sqdn after 1660 CU. Ops with 57sqdn.....

Thanks, For the extra information into my Uncles movements,Although I have one enquiry into the information. The Movements form A M Form 78 Indicates that W4232 was transferred to 1660CU on the 14/05/1943,Then it was transferred to 50 Squadron on the 2/03/1944 and then on 5/03/1944 to 5LFS at RAF Syerston,Also W4232 was listed at 1660HC as TV-A
Hi, I misunderstood your first posting, as it looks as though you were saying that the aircraft went with him to 1660 CU, which was 15/04/43. I have the 50sqdn Records Book as well, so i'll have a look to see if it confirms what the Form 78 says. Just thought, no point in looking if only at 50sqdn for two days, it would'nt show on ops. Can't think why it would go to 50sqdn for such a short period.

Thanks, I'am extremely grateful for your information,And you may be able to guide me and help with a little bit of information.or the lack of it. The Aircraft W4232 is of importance,I'am at this time with the help of Local Historians and other local residents hoping to find the exact resting place of the Aircraft. We have a 99% location of the crash site, and with the help and permission of the Land Owner going to check this out within the next few weeks. The reason for this,Is to arrange with the help of the Local Residents and Authorities to have a Memorial placed to remember the crew that Died in the crash,And to remember all the crews and ground staff that Died during the War in Bomber Command
