First, i am brand new here and this seems like a good place to start with some pretty knowledgable people.
I have just received my grandfathers service records, he was bomber command aircrew from 1941 and left the RAF in 1968. His records are hard to follow as it lists some stations but very few of the squadrons that he served with. 78 Squadron is the only sqaudron that is specifically mentioned, the rest of the records simply state '41 base' or '53 base' and various training units such as 1EAG etc..
Can anyone explain what eg: 41 base means or point me in the roight direction to look? Any help greatly appreciated.
To Start you off, 41 base was situated at Marston Moor, with Rufforth, Riccall and Acaster as it's satellites.
53 Base, was Waddington, Skellingthorpe and Bardney.
Depending on what timeline your grandfather was with 78sqdn, the squadron was based at Dishforth, Croft, Linton on Ouse, Middleton St George, and Breighton at different times.

Hi AW, thanks for your reply, He was with 78 Sqd from 23rd June 1944 & 5th Jan 1945 so that's a place for me to start. His records also mention 49 base (10/05/1944), 53 base (17/06/1945) & 41 base (23/06/1944) but only 78 Sqd listed. Can I ask where you get your information from so I can do a bit more of my own research? Once again thanks for your help.

In your first post, you say that he was with Bomber Command from 1941. Where was he between then, and the date given for joining 78sqdn, as it seems a long time for training. If you can go to my profile, and put your email address on my whiteboard, i'll contact you.
