Looking for information on 524 Squadron - Dec/44 to June/45
Permalink

My father was posted to 524 in Dec/44 and posted out June/45.

His name was Grenville Best.

Is there anyone out there with any information on 524 Squadron?

Thanks

Hi,

There are 2 ways you can find out, both from the National Archives, one expensive, and the other cheap.

The expensive way is to download the 524sqdn ORB (Operations Record Book) at a month at a time (£3.50 per month) from their online store. This will mean 7 months of Summary of Events books, and 7 months of Record of Events books, at a cost of £49. Or you can order them through their Record Copying Dept at approx £25 for the complete ORB covering from April 44 through to June 45. As you can see, the latter is by far the cheaper way, and if you want to take this course, follow this route.

Go to the National Archives website.

Click on Shop Online.

Click on Record Copying

Click on Order Form

Tick Digital Images

Monochrome

By Post.

In reference number put AIR27/1997/1

Tick Copy all pages in this document

Then just complete the rest of the form.

You will get the estimate within a few days, just accept it and it will be with you in a short while.

The ORB will give details on all ops flown, dates, crewnames, etc.

Alan.
